Why do I prefer individual or small group teaching to
big class teaching? I call my private students clients. As a teacher my job is
to serve my client. I want to know precisely what they need and what are the
most beneficial ways that help them to learn. Because I want to serve my
clients like this it is easiest to put into practice with one, two or maybe
three students at the same time. I want to give my full attention to every
student and it is not possible in big group.
My teaching philosophy is that my most important job
is to motivate my students. I give them tools and I help them but they have to
do the work themselves. I can't remove the knowledge to their head. I always
tell my students that mistakes are not dangerous. I encourage them to use the
language and if they are able to communicate even if everything is not
completely correct then the language has done its work and studying was worth
it because languages exist so that communication can happen.
All of my current students have studied in big class.
One of the reasons why they wanted to change into individual teaching is that
they want to develop faster than it is possible in big class. When you have a
group of people they never proceed in the same speed. Some of them are faster
and some of them are slower. Teaching usually takes place in the intermediate
speed. Students who are faster get bored and students who are slower can’t
follow.
People also learn in different ways. When I teach
individuals instead of group my client is my boss. I have to find the technics
that help this one client. Same technics may not help someone else. I want to
know all my clients and their way of learning. That’s how I am able to serve
them the best possible way and get the result they want to achieve.
